Memorial Removal Policy
Last updated: May 24, 2026
Families come to us in difficult moments. This policy explains how to request the removal of a memorial, a photograph, a video, or a tribute, and what to expect from us in response.
1. Who can request removal
A removal request may be submitted by:
- The legal next of kin or executor of the deceased.
- An immediate family member (spouse, parent, child, sibling).
- The owner of the Eternalgram account that created the memorial.
- A copyright holder of media used in the memorial.
- An individual whose likeness or identity has been misused.
2. How to submit a request
Submit removal requests through our contact form with subject “Removal request,” or by email to removals@eternalgram.com. Please include:
- The full URL of the memorial or content in question.
- Your relationship to the deceased or to the content.
- The specific items you want removed (entire memorial, a photo, a tribute, etc.).
- A brief explanation of the reason for removal.
3. Proof of relationship
For requests to remove an entire memorial, we may ask for documentation establishing your relationship to the deceased — for example, a death certificate, an obituary that names you, a probate document, or another reasonable form of evidence. We treat all such documents as confidential and use them only to evaluate the request.
4. Copyright takedowns
If you believe a photograph, video, or written work on Eternalgram infringes your copyright, send a takedown notice that includes: (a) identification of the copyrighted work, (b) the URL of the allegedly infringing content, (c) your contact information, (d) a statement of good-faith belief that use is not authorized, and (e) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you are the rights holder or are authorized to act on their behalf. We will remove or disable access to the content promptly upon receipt of a valid notice.
5. Impersonation & fraudulent memorials
If a memorial appears to be created for a person who is not deceased, or by someone with no legitimate connection to the deceased, please contact us. We prioritize these reports and will remove fraudulent memorials promptly once verified.
6. Emergency removals
For urgent situations — content that endangers a person's safety, doxxing, ongoing harassment, or content posted during the immediate aftermath of a death — mark your message with “URGENT” in the subject line. We aim to triage urgent reports within 24 hours.
7. Timeline
We aim to acknowledge every removal request within 3 business days and to complete review within 14 business days. Complex cases involving disputed ownership or legal documentation may take longer; we will keep you informed throughout.
8. Disputes between family members
When family members disagree about a memorial we approach the situation with care. We will contact the memorial owner, hear both parties where possible, and seek a resolution that honors the deceased. Where consensus cannot be reached, the rights of the legal next of kin will generally prevail.
9. Appeals
If your content was removed and you believe the removal was made in error, you may appeal by replying to our removal notification or writing to appeals@eternalgram.com within 30 days. Appeals are reviewed by a member of our team who was not involved in the original decision.
10. After removal
Removed memorials and media are deleted from public view immediately and from our active storage within 30 days. Encrypted backups may retain copies for up to 90 days for operational continuity before being overwritten.
